Tidewater 2200 Carolina Bay a Coastal Angler’s Dream Rig

Tidewater 2200 Carolina Bay a Coastal Angler’s Dream Rig

By Craig Lamb

Poll coastal anglers on their top needs in the layout of a bay boat and the majority answer will likely focus on roominess. An open deck is important for moving around, casting to fish and then fighting and landing the catch.

Unobstructed deck space integrated with fishing features is what Tidewater Boats had in mind with the 2200 Carolina Bay. You immediately notice the oversized casting deck, so important to Bay anglers, achieved by integrating a more aggressive bow flare into the hull design.

That resulted in a bonus for boaters and anglers. The wider flare provides a smooth, dry ride and more comfort while increasing fishing space. Dual live wells, pull-up cleats, fold-up jump seats and a focus on solid, well thought out rod storage are some of the key features of the 2200 Carolina Bay.

The 2200 Carolina Bay measures 22’ 4” at centerline with a spacious beam spanning 8’ 6”. A 56-gallon fuel tank supports long runs for a maximum recommended horsepower of 250 (150 h.p. recommended for performance and fuel economy).  There’s ample freeboard, with a 25-inch transom and cockpit depth of 18.5 inches.

Taking a closer look you will find this boat packed with quality designed fishing features from stem to stern. Ample storage at the bow is a standout feature. Below the spacious front casting deck is a trio of compartments that are ideal for separating gear and keeping it all organized. Also up front is an anchor locker, yet another feature proving Tidewater’s commitment to keeping decks free and open for fishing.

More commitment to storage is found in the port and starboard rod lockers that handle up to ten rods. Unlike exposed rod storage on some boats, these are lockable and integrated into the hull. Vertical rod holders at the console and along gunwales keep rods at the ready all around the boat.

Fish and bait care is another focus of Tidewater. A center live well at the stern is rounded and blue gel-coated to keep baitfish calm. At 30 gallons it will hold most sizes of baits, small and large. The central location provides easy access, while a 12-gallon live well is astern for quick rigging baits for trolling.

At the stern is, even more, storage, with two draining compartments at port and starboard. Those provide easy access to gear and provide functional space for mounting the hydraulic pump of a shallow water anchoring system. Optional rear, starboard and port jump seats fold down when the rear deck is in use.

The 2200 Carolina has a recommended horsepower rating for a 150 h.p. outboard, with a maximum of 250 h.p.

Coastal anglers have varying needs for fishing a wide range of waters, from offshore reefs to inlets and bays. Customizing a boat to fit those needs and angling scenarios is a must. You get plenty of customizing options through by choosing those from a long list of options. Best of all, optional accessories are factory installed by skilled riggers at the Tidewater factory in Lexington, S.C.

Choose from Value Packages that include combinations of a compass, swim platform, raw water wash, dual battery switch and consoles with flip flop seats or leaning post. You can add electronics, T-Top with spreader lights or even a fresh-water mister, trolling motors of varying thrusts, a T-H Marine Jack Plate and much more.

The smooth ride comes from the wave-shock absorbency of the Corrugated Grid Stringer Vertebra. Filled with foam to reduce noise and vibration, the stringer system works like a human skeleton to create a rigid, unified construction that tightly secures all of the internal parts. Those include fuel tanks, consoles, seating and storage compartments that are fastened to the stringer system. To ensure a solid, tight fit, every stringer system is customized for each Tidewater model.

Another defining Tidewater feature is the Spray Relief Point. That is the point of impact on the hull deflecting water away from the boat. Multiple SRP areas enhance the characteristic dry ride of the Tidewater.

Composite construction, foam filled hulls, cored decks and gunwales plus much more quality design, materials and construction are extras that come with the price of a Tidewater.

By taking extra steps not found in most brands, Tidewater has the confidence in providing owners a 10-year, transferable warranty that covers the hull.
